The Connection Between Health and Wellness

Health, as defined by the World Health Organization, is a state of full physical, emotional and social well being and not just the absence of illness and infirmity. A number of definitions have also been used over the years for various purposes. In some cases, even the word “well” has a different meaning to different people. One definition that is commonly associated with the concept of health is, “the quality of life combined with good health or capacity for the development of personal needs.”

The ability to live a healthy lifestyle combines physical well being, mental health, and the ability to maintain a healthy relationship with others. People who are healthy tend to be happy and have high self-esteem. A proper diet, a regular sleep routine, and regular exercise all contribute to the ability of an individual to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Being healthy also includes one’s appearance. A person who is physically fit has a sense of self-worth and a positive attitude about life. A physically fit person feels good about the way he/she looks. Individuals who are physically healthy have fewer health problems than those who are not. In terms of prevention of illness, a person who is in good health is more likely to get the necessary treatment from illness before the onset of the problem.

Mental health includes one’s ability to learn new things and cope with changes. Individuals who are mentally healthy tend to be creative and learn from their mistakes. They are also less likely to have major depression and anxiety disorders. In addition, individuals in good mental health are less likely to have serious health problems such as heart disease and diabetes. Good physical well-being includes strong bones, regular bowel movements, and good vision. Individuals who have good health are less likely to have depression and anxiety disorders and to commit suicide.

The quality of life of those who are in poor physical health is usually poorer than those who have good wellness. Poor physical well-being is associated with a greater risk of disability, illness, and death. Conversely, those who are in good physical health have a greater sense of self-worth and self-image. They are also more likely to get the medical attention they need and to follow a doctor’s health plan. The improved quality of life that follows from better wellness is what is called “public health”.

The difference between physical and mental health is the quality of life that follows from having excellent health. Those who have excellent physical health are happier with their lives. They find that they are able to participate in a wider range of activities and live longer than those who are not healthy. Those who are physically healthy and happy have lower rates of chronic disorders, such as cancer and diabetes. They also have lower rates of depression and other mental illnesses. This is what is called “public health”, or the encouragement of good health.
